Nintendo returns to profit in latest financial results

Nintendo has returned to profit changing last year's loss of 23bn yen (£126m) to a 41bn yen (£226m) profit.

The 3DS helped, selling 9 million units over the last year, seeing total sales across all models stand at 52m units.

Nintendo only shifted 3.6m Wii U consoles last year, seeing lifetime sales at 9.54m worldwide, which is not particularly great when you consider the PS4 is already at 22m.

3DS once again stole the show with its software, with Pokémon remakes Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire standing at a total of 9.94m units, Super Smash Bros. on 3DS totalling 6.75m and the Wii U version 3.65m.

Mario Kart 8 has sold 5.11m copies since its launch.

Nintendo hopes to shift another 7.6m 3DS and 3.4m Wii U consoles in the next 12 months and to turn another profit, although failed to mention Amiibo and how it is performing.

The first Nintendo smartphone apps with new partner DeNa, will release later this year. That could be one to watch as it's certainly a potential money maker.

Nintendo will be fine. I guess the sorry fact is the Wii U doesn't interest that many people. I am still glad I got one though just wish it had more titles/support. The 3ds and skylander ?ahem?... amiibo toys have helped.. Good news for them :-)

I'm glad they are back in profit, was beginning To think that they was gonna do a sega and become a 3rd party developer and slowly die, the biggest problem nintendo have is in the last 2 generations they have massively underpowered the wii and wii u compared to sonys PS3 and 4 and microsofts 360 and one, I am telling you all right now if the wii u was called Wii 2 and was much closer in power to current gen rivals the 3rd party would come back and it would be business as usual, last gen the Wii wasn't even as powerful as microsofts original Xbox and was basically a GameCube with a few bells and whistles, I think my Wii u is a brilliant console but even the sega Saturn and dreamcast was way better supported than it with software, all 3 companies are good I don't have a preference to any of them just my thoughts.
