Assassin's Creed: Syndicate revealed, dated for October 23 on PS4 and Xbox One; PC Autumn *update*

*Update* Ubisoft has revealed that the latest title in the series is indeed called Assassin's Creed Syndicate.

The new game is set in Victorian-era London and features a brother and sister duo, who prowl the streets of Victorian-era London, delving into the criminal underworld. The campaign splits between the two characters.

In the trailer we see weapons such as a pistol, gauntlet and brass knuckles. Combat has been close range, making combat much more like brawling. The new fighting system is apparently faster and more responsive than ever before.

There is also a new traffic system and you'll be able to utilise vehicles, jumping from them to assassinate targets. Vehicles include the likes of moving trains and carriages.

In addition to the above, there is also a new rope launcher to climb quicker or even traverse from one roof top to another. This works well, as another new addition is the ability to use the environment to take out enemies, for example, by dropping hanging barrels on their heads.

Assassin's Creed: Syndicate will release on October 23rd for PS4 and Xbox One. The PC version will arrive in Autumn 2015.

*Original* A new Assassin's Creed will be announced today at 5pm and you can watch below.

Rumours suggest that the title is called, 'Assassin's Creed Syndicate,' although we don't know a lot else about it at this time.

Watch the video below to find out all about it from 5pm.

Press release

Today, Ubisoft® announced that Assassin’s Creed® Syndicate, the newest installment in the blockbuster Assassin’s Creed franchise, will be available worldwide on October 23 for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft. The Windows PC version will be available this autumn.

Developed by Ubisoft Quebec in collaboration with eight other Ubisoft studios*, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is an epic single player experience set in London during the height of the Industrial Revolution, an incredible age of invention that transforms the lives of millions. During this time, the gap between the poor and the rich expands exponentially, making workers’ lives little more than legalised slavery. The lower classes fight for survival by forming a new kind of family – gangs – and adapting to life in the criminal underworld. Players will embody both Jacob Frye and Evie Frye, twin Assassins raised to follow the Creed. Jacob, a determined, hot-headed and rebellious leader of an underground gang, is vastly different than his sister Evie, a master of stealth and control. Together, Jacob and Evie team up to challenge rivals, plutocrats and Templars alike to free the masses from poverty and corruption, and, ultimately, wrestle back control of London.

In Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, players explore the largest, most modern open-world city ever created in an Assassin’s Creed game. The fighting is more brutal than ever, as players combat rival gangs and grow their sphere of influence throughout London using new weapons, including brass knuckles, a kukri knife, a revolver and the Assassin’s gauntlet. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate also includes innovative navigation and transportation throughout the open world, including a rope launcher for scaling tall Victorian buildings, zip-lining from rooftop to rooftop or performing aerial assassinations, and horse-drawn carriages and high-speed trains for free-running, tracking down enemies or escaping after daring raids.

"The ability to lead an underground gang, commandeer any vehicle on hand and use modern tools to take on an expansive and fast-paced Victorian London sets this game apart,” said Marc-Alexis Côté, Creative Director at Ubisoft. “Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has been in development for more than two years and this new modern take on the living open world will please Assassin’s Creed fans and newcomers alike.”

The victory name was leaked a few months ago with a few pictures but whether its true or just had the name changed we will see either way can't be worse than unity still can't bring myself to play that game

I actually care less about ASSASSins creed reveals than Cod reveals and that is saying something Ubisoft have lost a lot of there credibility in the last 6-12 months and I dunno yet another ASSASSins creed (hasn't there like been 27 released since easter or something) isn't really going to majorly sway anybodys interest in them I don't reckon.

can't wait for this! Love the AC series. its a game I play year on year, get the latest, complete in about a week or so then jump back in throughout the year to complete the collectible missions (except blackflag on wii u where I finished it in about 5 days ~90 hours for all unlocks, cheats, weapons, missons etc at 100% - i was unemployed at the time!) So I can't wait for this - will probably get the collectable edition on uplay though for the statue and what not again :)

i was one of the few who enjoyed Unity though - had on ps4 from release and completed it before any major patches with no issue except a few frame rate drops in towns with lots of people. Still need to plat that, but literally completed the story, all of the dead kings and all the side missions - just need to finish the chests and get around to the co op parts.

If this is an 'online' game following the bandwagon stream of other game devs who keep spilling out these online games I don't care about, yes I'm looking at you ESO, Dragon's Dogma Online etc. then it's a no purchase. If however it's an improved Unity with naval battles and a Megalodon, I'm in!

shouldn't have naval battles in it - its based in London this one isn't it? In the clip above its a hidden blade and a cane by the looks of it :) Will probably be a 4 player co-op again unless its old gen (which i dont see it being) but i want the multiplayer back - multi on black flag and 3 were great, so much fun. plus earning in-game credits in multiplayer was do-able so you didn't have to buy any of the microtransactions to enjoy the multiplayer.

just gone back on unity to finish collecting stuff and OMG! they have really gave in to copmlaints, all AC Initiate chests are avaliable without having the correct levels, all app chests are there, Altairs clothes are unlocked doing rifts and not the app and other things have appeared. My map is crazy now with stuff i need to do - all the missions and stuff you unlocked elsewhere are now there - today is gonna be a long day....

So it's a good time to own Unity then? I literally just bought it an hour ago from CEX.

yeah, seems you don't need to have the app or an ac initiates profile (my profile is level 15 so enough to unlock everything due to completing every AC game from 1) i even bought the app and unlocked everything on there but now seems it is all in-game. my altair costume got re-locked though as they changed criteria to complting the rifts, so i need to re-unlock but not an issue as i dress up as the man in the iron mask and not altair. need to do co-op stuff soon, luckly you can play them all solo, but supposedly hard on own haha - will be a challenge

Looking good lets hope they learnt from unity and just make one AC game and not two

this looks awesome, i'm glad to see the return of whistling in cover to call over the guards - missed that. also the fighting looks so smotth and painful! Day one special editio and sp for me :) - this is one of the few games I actually get the SP on or before release for - always get your moneys worth. I sense a push on co-op again though if always 2 characters present - hope no co-op only trophies

just pre-ordered the Big Ben edition with Uplay - 120 quid again though :( this time you get the Season Pass - thats one of the things I asked for in the survey they sent out with the last one I got off them as we were paying over 100 and didn't get the SP with it.
