Windows 10 launches on July 29

It's not really gaming news, although it's slightly related, so you may be interested to know that Windows 10 will launch on July 29.

The new software will be available in 190 territories globally with existing Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 users being given a year to upgrade.

Microsoft says the that users who update during the promotional period will be able to use Windows 10 at no cost forever, which seems like a good idea.

Users wanting to download the the free Windows 10 upgrade will have to reserve a free copy in the coming weeks.

Probably the first OS I've been the tiniest of amounts hyped for, and probably solely for the discussion around it being free. Lots of rumours that this will be the last paid for OS, with future ones being subscription based, but who knows. Jut noticed the notification on my work's PC to reserve my copy now. Will sort out on laptop tonight, and be called up by family about it in the next few days, no doubt.

will be grabbing this - my win 8.1 official cost me 12 quid direct form MS when 8 first cmae out (as a promotion because nobody was buying it) - 8.1 with start menu 'fix' is perfect, runs everything and works great. 10 should be even better. I even have a 'virtual' windows XP on mine so I can play and stream older games that 7 and above no longer support :)
