Microsoft to appear at and sponsor E3 show for PC

As you may know, there will be a PC conference for the very first time at this year's E3 and now we have learned that it'll be sponsored by Xbox.

Guests during the show will include Blizzard, Bohemia, Paradox, Square Enix, CCP, Fullbright, and AMD and tpoday Microsoft announced that it's both a sponsor and a participant.

"For us, the PC Gaming Show is the ideal place to speak directly to PC gamers, and it’s a great time to talk about Windows 10 - the best operating system we've ever created for gamers on PCs,” Microsoft's Head of Xbox Phil Spencer said. “With Windows 10, we’re bringing the best of Xbox with the best of Windows gaming, including Xbox Live and the new Xbox app, Game DVR for nearly every game, and DirectX 12 for better gaming graphics and performance.”

So there we go. What do you think of that?

not heard much about this - but others might - playing xbox one games on the PC - is that purely a 'remote play' feature? same as Steam, PS4 and Wii U - where you have the xbox one in one room and on a pc you can stream and play the games when the tv is busy - thats what it sounded like when i heard about it. if so the xbox app will be useless for me unless they start to do achievements in pc games again (the 1 thing i liked about gfwl - i have loads of gfwl games I still go back too. Even halo 1 and 2 haha!)

M$ are bringing the option to stream Xbone games to PC with Win10 (It's a bit naff) but they are also launching a GFWL replacement with Fable Legends & there might be other games. The way he has been talking I think he knows that some PC gamers don't want a Xbox so they want to try and go after that market

^ Basically, fable looks crap - pretty, but rubbish, they have done what Dragon age and even Unity to an extent has done - gone from a single player to an obviously made for 4 players game. The new function with Fable is purely the fact pc and xbox one players can play together - so same server. Shadowrun anyone? how about FF14 on pc and PS4 and PS3? it isn't new - just not seen very often. Finally the Xbox App - so all windows 10 PCs pretty much have Xbox Live built into them. guess it saves downloading GFWL when its built into the operating system

If they find a way to, if you have the game on steam for example and it is out on Xbox, then when you play it and you get steam achievements it also unlocks the XB Gamerpoints, that would be great. But as it is, it's gonna be a thing they push for companies to use, yet only MS own and a few indies will. Wouldn't surprise me if they bring out Halo 3 for win10 only, just like halo 2 was a Vista exclusive as well. DVR is in most applications now too - wouldn't' surprise me if they are truly inventive again and announce twitch streaming as well.... what? oh that has also been done, ah well, they will be first for something; Headphone in the controller! oh, that as well, erm, I dunno then

What would be the point of that? Achievements are just a dick measuring contest

Nah, I used to be into collectiong on Xbox 360 as it was a new thing - had over 70k before I left, which was a lot back then without cheating. Never bothered with PC ones except Uplay based ones (to unlock points to get free stuff in other games) an now i'm back into them on PS4 again. Its a way of making a game longer. Akiba'S trip took me about 15 hours to complete on my first play through - going back getting all the trophies took another 20 hours. effectively increasing the gameplay time of the game by giving you stuff to try and achieve. If achievements are done right they can be good and used as 'goals' or stuff to do once the game is over

Another example will be Witcher 3. You can technically finish in about 30-40 hours. if you complete the game what then? no new game plus. you either stop or you just go exploring for no reason other than to look around. havin the achievements give you stuff to try and do once you have finished and challenges without calling them that

at least they aren't as bad as badges - buying virtual cards to create badges - they are more of a showing off thing as there is no skill involved in obtaining any of those :)

I'll go for Achievements to prolong a game I absolutely love but most of the time I just move on the another game

Also I get a lvl 5 badge for games I love if the cards are cheap enough. Some of the money goes to the devs & I'm always happy to throw money at amazing games
