Dark Souls III announced for PS4, Xbox One and PC *update*

Update 2: Bandai Namco has finally announced Dark Souls III for an early 2016 release date for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Steam for PC.

Developed by acclaimed Japanese developer FromSoftware and directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, Darks Souls III is the latest chapter in the series. Players will travel across a wide variety of locations in an interconnected world of unrelenting challenge and deep RPG gameplay as they search for a way to survive the coming apocalypse.

"The Dark Souls brand became a phenomenon thanks to amazing work from our dear partners FromSoftware and our very own teams”. said Herve Hoerdt, Vice President of Marketing & Digital at Bandai Namco. "But above all, we are blessed to have such a supportive and loving community, and we are happy to dedicate this final episode to them!"

Dark Souls III will arrive on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC early 2016.

Update: Bandai Namco appears to have confirmed Dark Souls 3 accidentally, with the hashtag #DarkSouls3 and the words "... Only embers remain," being promoted in a tweet.

The tweet has since been removed, although was captured beforehand.

Original: Dark Souls III will be released in early 2016 according to a promotional image found by IGN.

The site claims that what you see below is "official" artwork featuring the game's name and release window and that the game will be formally announced next week.

"The unreleased, official art... displays an armoured hero covered tattered cloth and flames, as well as the suggested launch frame of "Early 2016', the site says.

This follows rumours last week of the game being in development. So what do you think? Are you excited for more Dark Souls?
