Halo 5: Guardians co-op needs Xbox LIVE Gold says 343

Halo 5's co-op will require an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription, despite reports that Silver would be sufficient.

Is it really a big deal? We imagine that anyone buying Halo won't be buying it for the campaign, but rather for its extensive multiplayer, for which a Gold subscription would always have been required.

In any case, producer Josh Holmes said the studio "misspoke when stating that online co-op campaign would be supported with an Xbox Live Silver account.

“Co-op campaign will require Xbox Live Gold to play,” he confirmed.

“It is important to us that fans have the opportunity to play the full co-op campaign experience and we are doing this by providing a 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial with Halo 5: Guardians,” he said.

Halo 5: Guardians releases this November, although it'll also be a major feature of Microsoft's press conference.

this is because split screen has been removed - which is crap. you can no longer co-op on the same machine. I bet they do a - co-op on your xbox one and pc - thing at E3, so turned off split to enable people to do it locally on windows 10
