Hitman to release in Episodically via digital download

Update: A Q&A on Hitman has revealed a little more detail on how the game will come together when it is released later this year.

“What we release on December 8 is not the full game,” IO Interactive has said of Hitman.

“It’s a sizeable chunk of it. Throughout 2016 we’ll release more locations and missions until the story arc is done and finished. All of that content is included in the $60 price.

“We think the word ‘episodic’ sets up the expectation that we will sell individual content drops for individual prices but that’s not something we’re planning to do.”

“That said, there are some episodic elements to the story in the sense that it’s delivered in chunks over time, so experiencing the story will probably feel episodic. But there is also a ton of other content including live events, which have nothing to do with the story.

“The thing is, there isn’t really a term to describe what we’re doing. That’s why we’re calling it a ‘live’ experience because it feels like that’s what it is – something that lives, grows and evolves,” the developer said.

“Early Access can often mean something unfinished or unpolished. That’s simply not the approach we’re taking,” it added. “All of the content we release live to our players will be complete and polished, whether that’s the locations and missions we release on December 8th, the live events or the locations and missions that we will release in 2016.

“It will always be a polished Hitman experience.”

So what do you think of paying up from for part of the game, with the rest arriving at a later date?

So if I'm reading this right, you'll pay full price for a little chunk of the game then get the rest later ?? wow... really hope other companies don't do this, this is a joke

Thats crap - and i'm sure a lot of people will complain. It has already been deemed as a MMO Hitman (small main game with mmo style kills that only appear for a limited time rather than within the game forever) and this kind of agrees, releasing the base game and adding on over 6-12 months

when you think about it though - most games follow this now, only they dont advertise it. Batman Arkham knight - full game, but new content every month for 6 months if you have SP, Shadow of mordor - release base gmae and content over 6 months with SP, *insert any major AAA game* - new content being added over 6-12 months via dlc or season pass.... Just this time they are up front that it will be built on over 6 months for no extra cost than the base game - so no SP required, so this may be okay - I guess we will see - going digital only though is a bit crappy, I guess its so you can't trade it in if it turns out to be crap

@Turniplord, Yeah seems to be the way with a lot of games now a days which is one of the reasons I have really cut back on buying games. I'm looking forward to playing Halo 5 (Beta was great) because there going to release all 16 DLC maps out for free although they're probably just trying to make up for Halo MCC but that's okay becauce from what I played of Halo 5 (Beta) it was fucking awsome.

Great.... think I'll wait until the Hitman: Complete Version retail release in 2016.

@escaflowne2001 thats the thing - technically there wont be a Hitman GOTY release as - according to the above - all the content is included, just not on day one, so you pay one price and get it all - but parts will be delayed. so technically what we do now without buying the season pass - If they bring out a SP as well as doing this then that would be funny, but I don't think they will - SE don't do SP's that much

to look at this in a positive way is, at least the devs aren't going to release then forget the game even exists bar a few DLC and initial patches - sounds like they are going to be supporting and adding stuff to it over a period of time - today too many companies release a game then move onto the next without fixing the other first. So this may be good?
