Shenmue 3 wraps up funding at over $6.3 million *update*

Update 1: Shenmue 3's Kickstarter has finished at $6,333,296 from 69,320 backers, making it the highest funded project in the video games category.

The final 24 hours saw an additional $947,000 added to the Kickstarter. Did you back the game?

Update: Shenmue has now reached $5 million in crowdfunding, with around two days to go. It was previously said that the developer would like to reach $10 million to make Shenmue 3 a “truly” open world game, although the funds achieved so far will help make it "a sequel true to its name".

Original: Shenmue 3 has new video which apparently captures the atmosphere of “wonder and magic” the game hopes to deliver.

The kickstarter campaign is currently sitting at $4.8 million, so will likely reach $5 million before it comes to a close.

Have you backed Shenmue 3?

No much of a trailer and if this is not a scene from the actual game then its a waste of time, I just kinda want them vanish for a bit and get working hard on this game. Its going to be a few years before we see it.

they are being greedy asking for 10 mill - they getting loads off sony anyway so they don't need the money from the kickstarter to decide on game mechanics. a lot of people are probably like me - rather pay 29 dollars for a copy of the game rather than retail 60 dollars when out on ps4 - so getting it at a discounted price. I'm starting to dislike crowd funding though - too many 'things' happening with the money and the processes etc... Kingsquest/project cars 2 for example...

http://www.vg247.com/2015/06/17/sony-is-chipping-in-to-fund-shenmue-3/ -- they havne't stated figures, but Sony have been confirmed for helping with development and marketing costs - all kickstarter funds supposedly going into production and not to sony which is good, but making a 10 million goal for open world and not reaching it makes me wonder what we are going to get then? if it isn't open world is that our fault or the devs because they can't be bothered to develop it in 2 years with the 5 million they got + sony money + all the money they will make from sales when it goes live?
