Rise of the Tomb Raider confirmed for 2016 on PS4 and PC

Rise of the Tomb Raider will launch for PC via Steam in early 2016 and for PlayStation 4 in holiday 2016, Square Enix announced.

The game will be a console timed exclusive for Xbox One and Xbox 360 for one year, although at least PS4 fans will have Uncharted 4 before then, so probably aren't too worried about it.

So there we have it. Are you planning on picking up Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One or are you happy to wait it out for the PC or PS4 versions? Or has the whole timed exclusive affair put you off the game completely?

Let us know what you think.

its good to finally have a rough date - its bad that the xbox one version is cheaper than the ps4 though :P I'm getting this for the PS4 once it finally comes out - I was late to play the first one, so waiting 12 months wont bother me

It shows how worried SE must be about this game's prospects if they're announcing the dates for other versions so far in advance of the game's release. Massive vote of no confidence in Xbox One from them and no mistake. Seems too little too late though, PS4 version will arrive long after the game has become old news, so that version will probably flop. That on top of making it timed exclusive to an unpopular platform AND launching the same day as Fallout 4 is going to be the death blow for this franchise.

I don't agree with your reasoning there Prometheusfan - they are probably announcing the dates because they have probably been told in their contract that once E3 was over then they could release dates - however before and during they weren't allowed to. Just because 2 big games are on sale on the same day doesn't mean everyone is forced to buy one or the other - most people who like these games will get both. Plus the PS4 version isn't really going to 'flop' is it? the 'definitive' version on ps4 and xbox one came out about 18-24 months after the original and that did well
