Kinect gestures will not work with new Xbox experience

The New Xbox One Experience does not use Kinect's motion-control gestures.

It seems that Microsoft has decided that not enough users were utilising Kinect's motion features with the Xbox One dashboard, so are not bothering to use them anymore.

"On gestures, when we looked at the New Xbox One Experience we wanted to prioritise features that customers were asking for, plus areas of improvement from the existing Xbox One UI,’ according to Microsoft’s Mike Yabarra.

"Then, we wanted to look at the use-case model of features that take a lot of investment and say, ‘is it worth continuing to invest in that area?

"With gestures, the reality was the usage was very, very low. So for now, we’ve cut that from the New Xbox One Experience. So when we launch on the 12th, they won’t be in the product. We’ll continue to monitor and listen to feedback to see if people want them in."

So what of Kinect then? What will be it's use in the future? At the moment we use the voice controls for actions such as "Xbox Record That" or to "Take a Screenshot," while other people I have asked use it to "Scan a Code," but that seems to be about its only use these days.

Apparently there are rumours of headsets soon becoming compatible with voice commands, which would just about render the camera useless, which makes you wonder why it was bundled with the console in the first place.

It'll be interesting to see if Microsoft comes up with a way to revitalise Kinect in the future, but at this time, it seems like it's another piece of technology that people didn't take too.

Can't believe they killing it off. Even Sony technically hasn't, but all voice commands can be done on ps4 with the headset. At least you kinda need the ps4 cam for some games and the vr headset.

In the long term its maybe bette to invest next time on a stronger system with an optional camera to add on for things like streaming. Kinect Sports on the 360 were simply amazing and the peak of gaming on the kinect however somehow when they brought Kinect Sports to the One it was simply awful I got rid after a few days, horrible horrible game

Must say I thought Kinect was awesome on 360 when we got it at Xmas a few years ago... was a great laugh.... then novelty wore off and February it was on ebay got pissed off with errors in picking us up etc so I if I owned one now I wouldn't miss it at all.
