PS2 games come to PS4 via emulator - starts with Star Wars

PS2 games now work on PS4 via an emulator.

New of this happening was announced a long time ago, back in 2014 in fact, however it seems that Sony now has it working, with the first titles to take advantage being the four classic Star Wars titles which are bundled with the Battlefront/Disney Infinity PS4 hardware.

According to Digital Foundry’s report, seen in the video below, the emulator upscales graphics by using black bars to enable the image output at 1080p.

“We are working on utilising PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation,” the platform holder confirmed to Wired.

“We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”

You can find out more in the video below if you're interested in how things work. We're just excited to see what other games will be coming our way and how Sony will distribute them. We get a feeling that we'll find out at this year's PSX.

Looks good - I thought they were remasters tbh - because of the trophies, impressive to see trophies in ps2 games that didn't even have any! I can't think of any ps2 games I would like to see though as most were re-made for he ps3

So, looks smoother but will Sony, the extortion agents that they are, charge us for this 'service' or shall I continue using PCSX2?

@neil - charged. they are games you can buy in the store - not streamed or disc ran. hopefully they will only be 7.99 like the ps1 games
