The Hitman beta comes to PS4 on February 12

Update: The Hitman beta launches at 10am on Friday, 12th February on PlayStation 4 and then on PC a week later.

It is worth noting that the only way to guarantee access to the beta, which is 4.7GB in size, is to pre-order the game digitally on PS4 via PSN, or PC via Steam.

Here's what the developer had to say:

First of all, by just playing the Beta, it will help us to make sure our infrastructure and technology is ready and primed for March 11th. That means testing our servers more than we've been able to do ourselves and providing us with valuable player metrics. We'll be able to track lots of statistics that will tell us where you kill your targets, where you die and which items are the most used, for example. We can use this information to refine and improve the game.

Secondly, we hope that you'll take the time to sound off in the forums or on any of the places mentioned above with your thoughts, opinions and feedback on all aspects of the game. In Hitman Absolution, we patched the game with an adjustment to how quickly players were detected when wearing a disguise. This was based on feedback from our players. Feedback such as this is exactly what we want to hear as we will be able to review and adjust these matters before we release the game on March 11th. We cannot overstate how important and valuable this feedback will be to us.

Original: The Hitman Beta will be available first on PS4 starting February 12th.

According to Square, the structure of Hitman is inspired by contemporary TV series’ and will unfold over multiple seasons. To begin with, the overall story and the individual mission stories run in parallel but as the first season progresses, the tracks will merge and become one.

To guarantee access to the beta, you will need to order one of the available packs via the PlayStation Store, be that the Full Experience or Intro Pack.

PS4 players will also get exclusive access to The Sarejevo Six. These are six bonus contracts that tell a self-contained side-story revolving around former members of a paramilitary unit called CICADA. Agent 47 will travel the world in pursuit of his targets, with one contract available in each location from the game.

The first PS4 exclusive contract will be available when the game launches on March 11th.

Square describes the exclusive content as follows:

"Your target is Scott Sarno, Director of European Operations for the CICADA private military corporation,"  "He is a thirty-year veteran of clandestine operations and has been linked to a number of questionable operations in Europe and the Middle East as far back as the mid-nineties. He is highly trained and incredibly observant, you should expect him to be accompanied by several CICADA agents at all times."

Will you be trying out the Hitman beta or the fully game via digital means or are you waiting for the retail version of this game?

PSN store is not taking money until it is released in March, which is good, and I should have the £45 by then, otherwise I may have gone for the intro pack myself, but £12 seems a lot to pay and if they are going to be tweaking the game as it is released then hard to tell if the rest will still be good from the intro. The intro could be bad, and then they make the rest good, or the intro could be good, but then other players play styles make them change it for the worse. If ShopTo gets the PSN wallet top ups back in stock this month, then ShopTo will get my money for the game.
