Sky will release 20 VR Experiences during 2016

Sky's new VR Studio, a new in-house production team dedicated to virtual reality experiences, will release 20 VR experiences during 2016, with the first of these debuting tomorrow.

The project will see two movies shot at recent pre-season Formula 1 testing in Barcelona be released, both as 360-degree videos on Facebook, as well as being distributed through Oculus Rift and Samsung's Gear VR headsets. Later in the year, Sky will also launch its own VR app.

During 2016, Sky plans to release experiences based on sports, major cultural events, news, arts and entertainment. It's unclear if Sky's content will be available on other devices such as the HTC Vive and Sony's PlayStation VR, but with a heavy hitter such as Sky getting behind the technology, this is good news for all platform holders.
