Sony has looked into bringing PlayStation VR to PC

Sony could bring it's PlayStation VR system to PC, according to Sony executive vice president, Masayasu Ito.

The PlayStation project division manager and software design department head revealed to Nikkei in an interview last week that the firm is looking to expand in as many ways as possible, and admitted that Sony has investigated connecting its VR headset to the PC.

"The possibility exists since the PlayStation 4 shares many of its parts with the PC," he said. "At the moment, we're concentrating on games so I have nothing to announce at this point, but we're looking to expand in a variety of areas."

PlayStation VR attaches to the PS4 using a combination of HDMI and USB cables, however Sony would likely need to create a PC software layer for its kit and also provide compatibility for the PlayStation Camera and PlayStation Move. This probably means that Sony will instead concentrate on providing the best experience it can for those playing on PS4, both in terms of hardware support and games.

If Sony does eventually support PC then it could be one of the cheapest ways for PC players to get into virtual reality.

Lol, Sony going to the darkside. More like Sony have realized that their millions of end users cant use PSVR properly on the current PS4, with a reliable, stable frame rate, so they will make it available to PC users. VR really needs to operate in the 90FPS range due to head movement, eg....when a player moves their head, the picture needs to react quickly and smoothly, 30FPS and 60 FPS aren't smooth enough for a good experience. This is why they have announced PS4.5k. The current PS4 can't do 1080p at 90FPS, hence PS4.5k....a more powerful PS4 that can achieve higher frame rates at 1080p. This would also explain why Sony have now announced that PS4.5K will be officially unveiled and released before PSVR. I'm in the market for a new console, so, depending on price and spec, I will be buying a PS4.5k and PSVR.
