Project Spark to close down

Project Spark is to be shut down by Microsoft, and in fact has already been removed from the Xbox One Marketplace and Windows Store.

The game creation software will see its servers taken offline from August 12, meaning that you'll no longer be able to download or upload levels after this date. Microsoft says that if you would like to keep playing your favourite user created levels then you will need to download them before this date.

"This was an extremely difficult decision for our team that we do not take lightly," community manager Thomas Gratz via the official forums. "When 'Project Spark' transitioned away from active development last fall, many of our team members moved to other projects within Microsoft Studios. While this means there have been no layoffs at Microsoft, it also means it’s simply no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping 'Project Spark' up and running with meaningful updates and bug fixes, so we have come to this hard decision."

Are you disappointed or surprised by this decision?

Before it went fully free to play, I was playing it daily to get the rewards from the Treasure Trove game which meant I did not need to spend real money anyway. Then I stopped playing as it didn't seem so rewarding any more, and I thought it would close down, and would waste time creating if not able to play them after it closed.

There probably is not enough time to create anything decent now, but there are loads of good creations to play, starting with those 25. I will try and get as many achievements as possible.
