Nintendo planning to release its own movie within 2-3 years

Nintendo is all about the games, but apparently it'll soon be all about the movies too, as it is planning to release a movie within three years.

Speaking in a Japanese interview with Asahi Shnbun translated by Nintendo Life, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said the platform holder would like to see its first film release within two to three years, as it plans to produce the movies in-house.

The last time we saw Nintendo characters in a movie was Wreck-It Ralph, although how Nintendo will get on with producing it's own movies remains to be see.

Do you think it could work out well for them?

Quite like Nintendo's anime channel app on the 3DS XL, so seems like a good development if they were to make anime movies only! Should coincide well with NX's capabilities, too, if you were to ask me!

I don't see Anime being big outside of Japan though - true, there are a lot of Anime that is big, but there is so much that most people don't know about. Look at Pokemon - Massive still in terms of games and TV show (over 900 episodes now!) and they release a film every season/year - yeat they have stopped showing it in the cinema because people stopped going to watch it after the 3rd one. I imagine they will go down the CGI route - I just hope they don't do anything with Zelda - Link is one of the few characters (bar a few exceptions) who has never spoke and doesn't need a voice.

I liked the Professor Layton Movie (again, retail only I think) - they should team up with Studio Ghibli if they are going the animated way - Although a live action Metroid film would be pretty cool!
