Sony Interactive Entertainment has today announced that its PlayStation 4 console has sold through over 40 million units world wide as of May 22, 2016.

This means that over five million PS4's have sold since its early-January, continuing the trend of the system currently being the fastest-selling console in PlayStation history.

“We are truly grateful for the enormous support from our fans and partners across the globe, which helped us achieve this significant milestone in such a short span of time," says Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

"We will strive to deliver even more exciting gaming experiences to our users, further driving the momentum and accelerating the expansion of the PS4 platform and its business this fiscal year by offering an unparalleled line-up of games, bringing our virtual reality system, PlayStation VR, to market and providing ground-breaking features and network services.”

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End released on May 10, recorded global sales of over 2.7 million units in a week, while first party titles still to come include Gran Turismo SPORT, Gravity Rush 2, and The Last Guardian. No Man's Sky is also on the horizon, although rumour has it that its been delayed.

Oh, don't remind us that they SHOULD have launched an even more powerful home console to start with. Or at least, one which was upgradable from the get go like a Cyberpower PC grade console! How do they hope to compete with PC gaming?! I like Valve's Steam way more than I like PSN these years, which is contributory-based! Have you noticed?! EVEN Bandai's newest launch, GodEaterz, will be coming to PC IMMEDIATELY, so they must be aware of some kinda tectonic shift with regards to PC GAMES sales! Wasn't the latest OnePiece Billed as COMING FOR THE FIRST TIME TO P-C!! PC MASTER RACE!!

a lot of bandai games come to PC at the same time now. One Piece Pirate Warriors on on PC previously as well - that's technically a One Piece game on PC.

I recon a large amount of new sales were for people waiting until uncharted came out. Its about 3x more than Xbox one now as well isn't it. I expect it will die down a bit now as people wait for the 4k announcement and then pick up one the new one is out
