Analyst suggests that Sony will announce a PS4 Slim later this year

It's being reported by the Wall Street Journal that we'll see both a PlayStation 4 Slim Model and the PS4K announced either before or during the Tokyo Game Show later this year.

This is the first we've heard of a PS4 Slim, although whether it'll match up to Xbox One S and include 4K support for streaming movies, as well as 4K Blu-ray and HDR for gaming, remains to be seen.

Andrew House, Group CEO and President of Sony Interactive Entertainment previously revealed that the more powerful PS4K is on the way, although was not shown at E3 as Sony is not ready to showcase the difference in power, most likely because it is waiting on the release of PlayStation VR or some other games which include Neo Mode.

Does a PlayStation Slim alternative to the Xbox One S excite you or are you already more interested in the PS4K or the Xbox Scorpio?

If they do then they are making a mistake - we don't need a Slim version. The only changes I can think if is a 4k bluray reader and 4k output for media. Unless.... Maybe the Slim is the 4tf version and the Neo is now the 5.5 tf version. If so, that would be cool as technically its much better than the existing PS4 and will probably retail at the same price as the ps4 is now - although I don't this will be the case

@silver - you do know that Sony has been trialing 2 Neo consoles since day one, which was way before MS announced anything at all. Obv, if this is just a slim with no extra benefit to anyone then sure - they copied MS - but if they bring out the lower spec (but still better than the PS4) as the Slim model and the beefy one as the expensive one then that's different to what MS have done. I could go on about how MS have copied a lot of Sonys things, but I wont, its about evolving and they are both at roughly the same stage now.

To be fair Microsoft Sony and Nintendo all copy each other and ideas from others... be it consoles slimmed down, peripherals like the move or Wii type avatars and or even skylander influenced add ons they are ALL guilty of it.

Only really interested in Xbox and power so its Scorpio for me and nothing before then . Dont see point in pointless upgrades when to be honest they are not really upgrades. PS4 Neo and VR would have been semi interesting but those dam controllers making playing on PS not viable....like seriously who has hands shaped like that to be comfortable in that position for reasonable perdios of time. Its just wrong

The scorpio will be great as long as the devs offer 2 modes - 1080p/60fps or 4K, then everybody can benefit even if do not have 4K TVs but even if do have 4K TV then people can choose whether to have 4K or 60fps. It will not be great if they just do 4K and it struggles at 30fps, and if that is the case then the power of the Neo will be sufficient.
