The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild needs to sell two million copies to be profitable

Nintendo will need to sell 2 million copies of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in order to recoup development costs.

According to Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, the game has been in development for five years, with 100 staff currently working on the game and 300 having contributed over the years.

Breath of the Wild is due to launch early next year for both Wii U and Nintendo's new NX console, although considering games such as Super Mario Maker and Splatoon both sold over 3.5m and Mario Kart 8, well over 7.5m copies, it seems that Legend of Zelda won't have too hard a time, especially since it will launch on two consoles at once.
