Nintendo NX is a portable home console, with detachable controllers and will use cartridges - Report

Finally details are starting to appear about the Nintendo NX and the biggest news to come out of it is that it's a portable, handheld console with detachable controllers.

According to Eurogamer sources, the NX will function as a high-powered handheld console with its own display, however it is also bookended by two controller, which can be attached or detached as required.

The console is also suitable for playing on the big screen at home, as you'll simply sit it on a base unit, or dock station which "connects the brain of the NX - within the controller - to display on your TV."

We also learn that the Nintendo NX will use game cartridges as its choice of physical media, with multiple sources confirming to Eurogamer that Nintendo recommends a 32GB cartridge from published games.

Other rumours suggest that the system will run on a new operating system from Nintendo and will make use of Nvidia's powerful mobile processor Tegra.

Nintendo was obviously not ready to comment on this speculation, only saying, "Nintendo has not made any new official announcements regarding NX which is due to launch in March 2017.

"As such [we're] unable to comment on the various rumours and speculations circulating."

Eurogamer reports that planning for the console, which is due to be revealed fully in September, has now stepped up within the company. Expect more details soon.

If the rumours above are true then it could be alright - 32gb is more than standard single layer Blurays so plenty of data. I don't think I like the sound of the controllers being detachable though, I don't like open handhelds - prefer the flip style. Just hope the tegra is powerful enough, I know it runs some decent games, but you need much more to hit 1080 - I hope its customised and does play actual real games
