Report suggests that PS4K will be revealed on September 7 *update*

Update: Vice has backed up claims that PS4K will be revealed on September 7.

"One source, who chose to remain anonymous, described the upcoming event as a "technical showcase", says the website, perhaps meaning that Sony plans to show what difference the new system will make to current and future games.

Original: Sony is to reveal the PS4K at a special event in New York on September 7, according to a report.

A report on french site Gameblog states that "while all indications pointed to an announcement of the PS4 Neo at the Tokyo Game Show in September, our sources tell us an announcement on 7 September in New York.

"Our sources are clear: Sony [is] planning an event next Wednesday, September 7 in New York. An event that we mentioned large enough to house a major announcement: the PS4 Neo."

The same site seems to suggest that we may also see Nintendo NX being unveiled one week later, which would place that announcement around the same time as the Tokyo Game Show.

Are you excited to hear more about the PS4K?

I'm looking forward to the Neo more than Scorpio, as it clearly plays all games in 1080p/60fps. It will probably be a lot cheaper too. With Scorpio, Nelson has confused things by saying that if you do not have a 4K TV then it will not benefit you (also reiterated in the other Shopto news article), which suggests that Scorpio games when played on Scorpio with a non 4k TV will play like 900p/30fps as it would on a Xbox ONE. If Scorpio games on Scorpio using a normal 1080p HD TV can run at 1080p / 60fps but on Xbox ONE they run at 900p or 30fps, then we would benefit. Also even at 4K it is suggested it will be 30fps, so I hope there is an option to choose 4k or 1080p when using a 4k TV, but due to Nelsons comment it doesn't seem like it.

yeah, i'll be getting this one too - I just really hope the HD enclosure is 15mm so I can put my 4tb drive inside the unit! I hope there is an easy transfer option as well as when I moved from 2tb to 4tb it took about a week to re-download everything!

Playstation Neo will be more of a slight upgrade when comparing it to the Xbox Scorpio! Xbox are becoming more gamer friendly than what PS are offering lately!

@space - we don't 'know' the true specs of the Neo yet as there is supposedly 2 designs. The second of which is very close to the Scorpio - so it could actually be on-par and released up to 12 months earlier. But, 'm sure we will find out soon direct from Sony

Turnip believes that the Neo will release in the next couple of months at the same specs as the Scorpio, WTF is that guy smoking? Hes a not just a fanboy hes utterly mental. Sony have been caught with there pants down and will have nothing like the Scorpio if they change all there plans they might but it certainly wont be in the next 2 months you crazy horse

@Jason - http://www.gamepur.com/news/23460-massive-ps4-neo-leak-gpu-2x-more-powerful-high-clock-speed-55tf-price-499.html - This was reported a while ago - there are 2 Neos. the one that leaked an a more powerful one that costs about 100 dollars more - they were supposedly testing them both out to see which one would benefit the users more. I know you don't tend to read articles about Sony on other sites, but you are being very ignorant regarding what people have read and been talking about......

None of this was in reaction to MS either as they have been in dev for quite a while now. Really fed up with you thinking everyone is a 'troll' and a 'fanboy' when you are clearly the definition of both. I know its the school holidays but surly you can find something better to do with your time?

Well considering they are looking at a Nov-March release window then no. All i'm saying is you shouldn't presume anything until it is officially announced direct from Sony - there have been rumors of 2 versions for a while, even before MS shown Scorpio - so it could have been those rumors that sparked Scorpio - who knows? I'd rather just wait than speculate - it could even turn out that the Scorpio is lower specs than they announced when it comes out - has happened before....

MS have given the Scorpio a long release window. Both PS4 and Xbox ONE were announced E3 2013 and released christmas 2013. MS have given Sony 1 year to do something better and still release the same time as Scorpio. Eurogamer say the Scorpio hardware will only do 30fps in 4k. Sony could release a console that can do 60fps. Price will also be a factor, I will only buy Scorpio if it is around £500, if it is £600 I think I will pass. Sony could also hold still and see how Scopio does, and make their move in 2018. Then MS will do something better again in 2019 or 2020 etc etc

I agree, but it's not all about power. Ms could have this fancy 4K/30fps device but the majority of gamers may only be interested in 1080/60 (which ms have said they are not enforcing - unlike Sony) plus you need the games to go with the console - with MS branching back out to the pc the majority of people who want MS games to run at a decent frame rate and quality will most likely buy/build a 4K gaming PC rather than a console as they know they can get the same games. It's all a little silly at the moment so we will have to just wait and see, I just don't think 'higher numbers' are gonna be the key factor in this - it needs the client base and the games along with the experiences.

Quantum Break was actually better on Xbox ONE than PC no matter the hardware. With this and Arkham Knight has put me off upgrading PC, as seems a waste of money buying the best gear when games then run overall better on weaker hardware in the consoles. Although with MS focussing on PC they may put better effort in PC versions, and if the new Play Anywhere games run better on PC then I may think about upgrading PC again.
