Sony details PS4 Firmware 4.0 ahead of public beta

The PS4 update 4.00 is entering public beta tomorrow and Sony has revealed some details of what to expect.

One of the first new features mentioned is a UI refresh with new system backgrounds, as well as updates to popup notifications and the What’s New tab. The system icons been redesigned, although the "overall look and feel of the UI remains the same."

The Quick Menu has also been updated, while shortcuts have been updated. You will also be able to customise the menu.

On the Share menu you can now upload 140 second video clips to twitter, while the menu itself has been downsized. It is said the Sharing will now be more efficient, saving you time and effort.

Perhaps the most requested feature ever has also been added in the latest firmware update - Folders. Yes, you will have the ability to create folders in both the content launcher and Library, while a new Purchased tab has also been added to show you all of your owned content.

We're hoping to go hands on with the beta tomorrow, so we'll knock up a video with the changes if we can.

Can't wait for this - I have so many digital and installed games that I hate trying to find them in the 'library' list - so hoping this will be a lot better.

Is there anything on hardware, as mine goes blank and switches between hdmi 1 and 2. Very annoying when online. A lot of people have this problem too with what I've read up on.

Not heard of that Sean, you mean the tv literally changes channels? If so go to settings and turn off the cec connection (think it's called that, it's in the hdmi part, allows the ps4 to control your tv) or try a different hdmi cable? It doesn't sound like a software issue otherwise everyone would be affected
