Destiny: The Collection allows you to move your character from PS3/Xbox 360 to current gen consoles

Bungie and Activision Publishing today announced Destiny: The Collection. Containing every release from franchise to date, including the new large expansion, Destiny: Rise of Iron.

Destiny: The Collection also includes a new upgrade program which begins today and runs until January 31, 2017, allowing those playing on PS3 and Xbox 360 to upgrade and play on current generation systems such as PS4 and Xbox One.

Destiny: The Collection will launch alongside Rise of Iron on September 20, 2016 and will be available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Gamers who pre-purchase Destiny: The Collection digitally will be able to experience Destiny, The Dark Below, House of Wolves and The Taken King immediately, while awaiting the release of Rise of Iron.

"Destiny: The Collection is the perfect starting point for gamers who have yet to experience Destiny," said Byron Beede, Sr. Vice President of Destiny at Activision. "Destiny - The Collection contains some of the most engaging content Bungie has ever created and the soon-to-be released Rise of Iron. It also includes a character boost that will allow new players to instantly join in with friends who are already enjoying Destiny."

Players who pre-order Destiny: The Collection or Rise of Iron will receive the black and silver Iron Gjallarhorn, a fan favorite weapon making its return to power. Those that pre-order digitally or at select retailers will also receive the Iron Gjallarwing Sparrow.

Details on how to upgrade can be found here.

Reading EG it sounds more like - if you are playing on PS3/360 then you can pay $40 and get the full collection on PS4/Xbox one rather than paying full price. But surely - if you upgrade and start playing the parts that aren't on the previous gen then you wont be able to use that character on the older gens anymore?

Yeah none of the new dlc will be available to 360 PS3 owners and they won't get any of the events like iron banner anymore that's why they are trying to get them to upgrade now with this package as once rise of iron comes out its basically finished for the last gen version

Also I think I saw that once Rise of the Iron release your characters on xbox / ps will be split, and your progress will not be shared, hence the feature to transfer your characters.

If you haven't started by now I'm not sure it's worth bothering with as it requires a lot of hours put in it I'm on over 1000 lol but that's since day one release
