Sony not planning to release an 'elite-style' controller

Sony has no plans for an 'Elite' esports-style controller, the company's Masayasu Ito, EVP Hardware Engineering, has told Digital Spy.

"We're not planning to develop any new controllers for PS4 Pro specifically, but there's a possibility that one of our third party partners may create licensed products - that's not planned or in development but just a thought," said Ito-san.

Sony has previously filed a patent for what looked like a reworked elite style controller, but based on what Ito told the site, nothing is in the works either for all PlayStation users or for those who plan to play on PS4 Pro.

Looks like you'll just have to stick to the third party version instead.

lol @ an elite controller for a low end product doesnt make sense. And you could never make that ridiculous controller elite with the sticks in such stupid places. At least they are removing the lighthouse feature hahaha what a crock of shit that pad is.

It doesn't need an 'elite' pad - give us the option to re-assign the buttons and I'll be happy - that's another thing that surprised me with EDF - it uses about 5 buttons but you can re-assign them to literally any button you want - more console games should allow you to do that. There is nothing worse than playing a game for months, then moving to a similar game but it has slightly different controls.

@Lonia - looks a bit of a faff that though, if you don't want it to disconnect every 8-10 mins you need a usb hub connected to it. The video instructions seem to only show wired Xbox pads as well (apart from the 360's wireless adapter). Plus you would obviously lose the touch pad support (which I guess a lot of games don't use for anything other than 'start' anymore)

Ahhh okay, didn't think you could do that, I'm used to the DS4 now though, tried to use my Xbox One pad on the PC the other day and it felt strange as i've not used it for a while - and Jason, I didn't even reply to whatever you said (didn't even bother reading it) so stop being stupid.
