Seybold: Compromised data only discovered yesterday

SCE America’s Patrick Seybold has said via the US PS Blog, that Sony did not wait a week to advise customers of the possibility of stolen personal details, but in fact had only recently become aware of it after identifying more information on the security breach.

“There’s a difference in timing between when we identified there was an intrusion and when we learned of consumers’ data being compromised,” he said.

“… It was necessary to conduct several days of forensic analysis, and it took our experts until yesterday to understand the scope of the breach. We then shared that information with our consumers and announced it publicly this afternoon.”

Sony has come under a lot of criticism for the way its handle the breach so far, however it isn’t the first company to come under an attack like this and it certainly won’t be the last.
