EA have announced Need for Speed: The Run, the latest instalment in their long running series.
The Run will see gamers “race for their lives” in a heart pounding race from San Francisco to New York.
“The heat is on – and it isn’t just the fuzz who are after you. Entering the race is just the beginning as you blow across borders, weave through dense urban traffic, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds.”
Based around the illicit, underground racing scene, The San Francisco to New York race seems very similar to the infamous Cannonball run, in which the only rules were the starting and finishing positions; not even the law would get in the way of those who took part.
The game will make use of Dice’s Frostbite 2 engine, which will help “take action racing genre to new heights with stunning visuals and car physics that hug the road even at top speeds all built around a gripping storyline”
The game is being developed by Black Box and, although their last few NFS games haven’t been very well received, with the help of Frostbite 2 and a year or so off, they could pull something great out of the bag with this one. There’s a trailer below and you can expect to see more of the game at E3.
The game will release on November 15 in North America, November 17 in Europe, and November 18 in the UK
