Ubisoft has today announced that they will be expanding the Tom Clancy franchise with a free-to-play online shooter, set in the Ghost Recon universe.
The imaginatively named Ghost Recon Online will be a downloadable title for PC, providing competition for EA’s Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield Play4Free.
Ubisoft claim that the game will provide ” the most social, connected and customizable Ghost Recon experience yet” by giving the players the opportunity to choose between three different classes of Ghost before customizing their weapons, using ‘cutting-edge’ military technology and share intel with their team mates. The developer will also support the game with regular events, game content updates and live support
We’ve also been told that the quality of the “rich graphical environments and maps” will rival that of traditional retail games. As expected, players will have the option to purchase premium content and features. You can’t expect them to give too much away for free, can you?
The closed beta of the game will launch this summer. For now, you can apply to be a beta tester on the game’s website here or pre-order a copy of Ubisoft’s other Ghost Recon game, Future Soldier, here (PS3), here (360) or here (PC).
