Sony already working on PS4?

Sony has confirmed that they have already begun work on a “future platform” which, when it arrives, will be the successor to the PS3 despite Kaz Hirai saying, just three months ago, that “a near-future PS4 or next-generation home console is not something that we are even debating now”

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Masaru Kato revealed that the platform was underway when asked to explain the increased research and development costs in a financial call to investors, today.

“For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life but this is a platform business, so for the future platform – when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that – but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there.” Kato stated.

When Kaz Hirai denied that Sony were working on the PS3′s successor, he also made it clear that Sony wasn’t “even at the half-way point” in the PS3′s life time, which they expect to last for at least 10 years.

Thanks, Eurogamer
