Things are changing for players of World of Warcraft as the 4.01 patch drops.
This patch lays the groundwork for the next expansion, Cataclysm, which is set to tear up the world of Azeroth and reinvent the game for the armies of players across the world.
A post from Blizzard in the game forums announced that maintenance would begin today (12 hours of downtime from 12:01AM PDT to 12:01PM PDT, or 5AM to 5PM BST) and the contents of the patch are explained in depth in the patch notes.
Changes include a new launcher which allows patches to download without interrupting gameplay, increased armour customisation and a host of talent tree revisions which will have die-hard fans crunching numbers for weeks to work out the most powerful classes and how best to use them.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is set to be unleashed upon the world on the 7th of December.
