Perfect World Entertainment and Zombie Studios have today announced a partnership between the two firms, which will result in the release of Zombie Studios’ Blacklight Retribution, a sequel to the studio’s 2010 downloadable title, Blacklight: Tango Down.
The game will make an appearance at E3, for a ‘behind closed doors’ hands-on event for the select media.
Perfect World Entertainment look to be digging deeper into the world of FPS games, starting with Zombie Studios’ new title. “Blacklight Retribution will be the first FPS in Perfect World Entertainment’s diverse portfolio of online games and highlights our commitment to providing players with new and unique online gaming experiences,” said Alan Chen, CEO of Perfect World Entertainment Inc
The partnership will also allow Zombie Studios to produce a ‘high quality’ yet free-to-play shooter, which is something Mark Long, the co-CEO of the company, has dreamed of doing for years. Blacklight Retribution will aim to raise the bar for free-to-play shooters by making use of Unreal Engine 3 and Direct X 11, to give gamer’s an experience that they’d only expect to find in full retail games.
