Resident Evil 6 PS3

I don't think theres been a game quite like RE6, when it first was announced I remember the ads for the game being put up minutes later, hell it was at the top of youtube for about a week, thats insane for a game that still had about 8-10 months till its release, the awesome Resi Evil Revelations, the tag line "NO HOPE LEFT" sent shivers down our spines, zombies making a return and seemingly every week there was trailers or good news like Ada would be playable, every campaign would be the size of the one from RE5 or hows about being able to play as Wesker's son, I was excited, the hype for this one was big.

Sadly it didn't get the scores to match it.

Now I want to make one thing clear, Im a big Resi fan, love the games with 3 being my favourite so when I say this I say it as a Resi Fan, RE6 was a major let down but its still a good and fun game.

The story follows 4 teams trying to uncover the mystery of the new C-virus and the plot involving outbreaks in regions across the globe. It always feels like the storyline is trying to hard to be resident evil that it comes off as stupid and forgettable, sure there are some great spots like chapter one of Leon's story and the blue cloud the descends on china but the rest is just either padding (Chris rescuing hostages anyone?) or nothing interesting.

The gameplay though is a lot of fun, I know a lot of people complained on the dodging but honestly I think it works very well, each character has a skill or weapon of their own which makes them feel unique and most of the enemy types are pretty cool.

Unfortunately with every positive theres also a negative, the gameplay is disrupted with cheap deaths and way too many quick times events, some enemies (including some bosses) look silly and online coop is almost unnecessary due to the fact you can't swap items with your buddy plus the AI partner can't die and is actually quite competent in helping you, unless you want to chat to someone during play it makes you think "what is the point"?

The 4 Campaigns often cross with each other so that 2 teams can pair up and tackle an event or boss together, on paper this sounds like it could have been RE6's best feature......if it worked......which it doesn't, trust me I tried to get this to work so many times but what will happen is either you won't find anyone and instead of a search again option, you will just continue the game or you will find someone but for whatever reason it will try to connect for 20-30 seconds before failing, also if you fail to connect and you are playing with a partner, they will disconnect too.

Mercenaries mode is back in which could be the games only amazing feature, Just like RE5, you pick a character and from there you collect time and kill enemies, it sounds simple about its so addictive and fun to play however theres another problem, with a standard retail copy of the game you only start with 3 maps, just 3, you have to buy the others, for anyone keeping scores RE5 had 10 maps from the go, chalk this one down to Capcom's greed.

The game is a mess, with everything right theres a wrong, when something works something else doesn't, when it can be entertaining it can also be annoying and yet its can be a fun game, under all the bad ideas, the things that doesn't work and Capcom being Capcom, there is a good game here.

Just like Sonic Unleashed, Mass Effect 3 and Metal Gear Rising, if you can push through the bad, you'll be rewarded with good.

The question is, can you do that?

I have played most entries in the resident evil series since i bought them all on gamecube many years ago. They are all great, even though number 6 has taken a more actiony route. I enjoyed it and am still going back for more, even though i suck at mercenaries :-p anyway this is well worth a buy as it has 4 campaigns and lots of replayability and now its bargain prices most places. BUY BUY BUY!!!
