Gamer Focused, Developer Inspired
PS4 promises games that can be experienced whenever, wherever and however you want, thanks to a system specially built to cater to the needs of the best developers in the world.
You'll be able to play digital titles as they download from PlayStation Store, and update PS4 even when it is switched off.
Immediately pick up any saved game where you left off – the suspend mode of PS4 gets rid of loading times and lets you carry on by simply pressing the power button.
Gaikai technology will let you instantly try out sections of any game that catches your eye on PlayStation Store.
Check out what your friends are up to and see the games, TV shows, movies and music recommended especially for you on the newly designed PS4 menu screen.
Broadcast as you play via Ustream. If you get stuck, your mates can join in to help you or offer comments in real time.
You can use a variety of applications, such as a web browser, while you play a game.
Your favourite PS4 games will be playable on PlayStation Vita via Wi-Fi with Remote Play.
Meanwhile, the new PlayStation App lets you turn your smartphone into a second screen – for example, to let you view a map or see how a friend is tackling the same part of a game.
PS4 was designed from the ground up to ensure that the very best games and the most immersive experiences reach PlayStation gamers. PS4 accomplishes this by enabling the greatest game developers in the world to unlock their creativity and push the boundaries of play through a system that is tuned specifically to their needs.
PS4 also fluidly connects players to the larger world of experiences offered by PlayStation, across the console and mobile spaces, and PlayStation Network (PSN).
Shared Game Experiences
Social interaction is central to PS4 experiences, so new features were built into the actual foundation of the system’s hardware architecture. PS4 provides dedicated, "always on" video compression and decompression systems that enables seamless uploading of gameplay. For the first time ever, gamers can share their epic triumphs with the press of a button. Gamers simply hit the "SHARE button" on the controller, scan through the last few minutes of gameplay, tag it and return to the game - the video uploads as the gamer plays. Gamers can share their images and videos to their friends on social networking services such as Facebook.
PS4 radically reduces the lag time between players and their content. PS4 features "suspend mode" which keeps the system in a low power state while preserving the game session. The time it takes today to boot a console and load a saved game will be a thing of the past. With PS4, gamers just hit the power button again and are promptly back playing the game at the exact point where they left off. Additionally, users can boot a variety of applications including a web browser when playing a game on PS4. PS4 also enables games to be downloaded or updated in the background, or even in stand-by mode.
Personalized, Curated Content
On the newly designed PS4 menu screen, players can look over game-related information shared by friends, view friends' gameplay with ease, or obtain information of recommended content, including games, TV shows and movies. The long-term goal of PS4 is to reduce download times of digital titles to zero: if the system knows enough about a player to predict the next game they will purchase, then that game can be loaded and ready to go before they even click the "buy" button. PS4 will further enrich users’ entertainment experiences, by meeting their potential needs.

A new, built-in sensor will enable highly sensitive motion control.
You'll be able to interact with games in new ways thanks to a touch pad on the front of the controller.
Additional sound effects will come from an inbuilt speaker; a headset jack lets you hear these in detail as well as chat with friends.
The controller's familiar dual analog sticks have been enhanced to provide better precision.
New, curved L2 and R2 buttons will give you greater control.
Upload images and video to Facebook with a tap of the new SHARE button.
An LED Light Bar on the top of the controller will match the colour of in-game characters so players can keep track of each other. You'll also be able to spot when a character has been injured, for instance.
A new camera has been developed alongside the controller, and tracks the location of DUALSHOCK 4 via its LED Light Bar.
Only once did I ever use a PS1 game on my PS2 and that was to see if it really worked... after that I never bothered, nor did I ever bother with playing an Xbox game on my 360... it's just not that big a deal.
since the ps3 was released companies are too focused on pretty graphics and have let the important things, gameplay, character development, story fall through the cracks, ps4 isnt even out yet and despite 3 being a console so bad that for the first time in my life i started dto play games on pc you are all acting as if its the greatest creation even though we already know it will be a rip off because the ps games we do have are no completely wortless, games costing 50 now wont be worth 50pence at the end of the year
and to all those saying backwards compatibility doesnt matter you clearly arent a game fan for gamesake, you are simply won over by looks.
ps2 still has some of the greatest games a sony console ever got GTA3, FFX,MGS2 etc, and not all of us have the space or necessary connections to have multiple consoles set up on one tv to switch between generation games
I will miss my Fat model of 1st gen ps3 which cost around 350, Mgs4 and Rain ,many more, but it's time to embrace to new tech, time to sell the old one and recuperate some costs back.
Pff backwards compatibility , as long you got you times/moneys worth from the games, who cares about playing it again for the umpteenth time!
Looking forward to it!
I understand that the PS4 has new hardware so backwards compatability could be a problem (I did see a post somewhere saying that Sony claimed they could add backwards compatability if they chose to.)
If Singstar and Rocksmith don't work on the PS4 then they need to get an update out for them and preferably free too. Then they need to allow the re download of my purchases from these games to work on the PS4.
If this doesn't happen then I will carry on with my PS3 until it ceases to work. I am not in the habbit of buying stuff twice.
Already so many games I want. So far destiny has me most intrigued though.
Please Sony; don't make us in europe wait until 2014, many will get an nextbox instead if you do I fear.
Why Sony, now I have to cancel all my game orders from 2013 till the end of 2013 to order them again? for your new console,
lightbulb that whole year of profit gone, because of no backwards compatibly!! think Sony, many consumers are already miffed with your announcement about no more second hand games,
so what am I gonna be buried up till my neck with games cos I can't sell my old ones.
they have clearly not got any more common sense,
or has Sony decided to sell out to Microsoft, E.g. devalue the company for preparation of a hostile takeover sellout deal?
I am worried, I hope that things change before release!
