Call of Duty Modern Warfare Multiplayer Reveal Trailer and Information
| 2019-08-02

Last night saw Infinity Ward take the wraps off their baby Modern Warfare’s Multiplayer mode! This reveal has been a long time coming after we got our first gameplay of the Gunfight 2v2 mode which made everyone very eager to see how regular gameplay looks. The event last night then was a pretty damn big one, we got a boat load of new information and gameplay and there is a lot to break down. Obviously, I cant give my thoughts on the game as I haven’t played it yet but I am going to state what I think of a few of the changes and additions coming to the game so without any further ado, lets get into it. Check out the multiplayer reveal trailer below:

Looks, Weapons, Sound and Flow

Obviously, I haven’t experienced the game in person but I’m going to summarize what I've seen from the extensive amount of gameplay I have watched. So then, the game look amazing and the new engine has definitely impacted visuals in more ways than we have seen before. Weapons are now extremely intricate with in some cases up to 60 unique attachments available, allowing you to completely change a weapon. This falls under the new Gunsmith feature and it looks fantastic, one of the biggest innovations we have had in a while. A big change this year comes In the form of the Mini-map which has now been removed. I personally think that this is a ridiculous change and I fully expect them to go back on this before launch as it forces players to dedicate two of their three streaks to UAV and personal radar to get that staple feature back. Moving onto sound and according to devs, the game sound has had a complete overhaul and even from gameplay videos on YouTube, I can hear that it sounds really good so I’m excited to experience that in person. As for the games flow, this appears to be a bit hit and miss and it really depends on what mode you’re playing as they have added 10v10 and 20v20 modes, the latter is something we haven’t seen from the series before. Normal modes look kind of slow as movement looks quite clunky and sluggish but this is something you can only really judge when you experience it for yourself. As for 20v20, I don’t think ill be playing that at all as it looked like a bit of a mess and I personally like being able to heavily impact the game’s outcome and with 39 other players, this is going to be very hard to do. Overall, the game looks great, sounds awesome but looks like it could be too slow and clunky, ill wait to fully judge until the games beta.

Killstreaks and Time to Kill

Killstreaks are back in a big way which is great and possibly very bad at the same time. Yes, score streaks are gone which I think is a positive change however, streaks in MW look really OP with the likes of the AC 130, Chopper Gunner and Harriers returning. Don’t get me wrong, I love an OP killstreak, but the Chopper Gunner in particular is only an 11 kill streak! We’ve been used to having to get around 2000 score (20 kills) for a huge streak in recent games so I’m worried that we will have to encounter a game changing killstreak in every match. If this is the case, I’ll definitely be running a launcher at all times as I can’t be dealing with someone dropping 20 kills in a chopper gunner every game. One of the streaks debuting in MW is an actual tank and anyone who has watched any of my Battlefield gameplays will know how much I fully hate tanks so I’m praying that this thing will either be terrible so that nobody uses it, or balanced so that it wont cause too many problems. The controversial White Phosphorus streak looks pretty cool, it almost acts as a Napalm and lingers in the map after use. The last streak worth mentioning is the Nuke which was teased at the end of the MP trailer although we have no idea how its earned or how it functions as of yet. Moving onto time to kill then, it looks very quick like MWR or Ghosts quick. Apparently also if you get shot in the head that’s it, like one bullet across the map. Whilst im not to worried about this, its going to take a lot of getting used to after the 5-6 bullets to kill we have had in Black Ops 4 this year.

Beta, Season Pass and Cross Play

There is a Beta again this year and it’s in September, specifically September 12th-16th for PS4 and 19th-23rd for PS4, PC and Xbox One. It will be an open Beta but early access is available with pre-orders and as usual, I would highly recommended getting that early access so ill leave links to pre-order down below. Moving onto the season pass or should I say, lack there of as there is actually no season pass for MW, all post launch maps will be free to play for everyone which is an awesome change. I’m now just praying that they don’t put new weapons in supply drops as that completely killed Black Ops 4’s vibe! Finally, Cross Play is very much a thing within the game so you’ll be able to play with players across PS4, Xbox One and PC providing you are using the same control method (KB+M or Controller). This and the removal of the season pass should do a great job of brining the community back together again and I’m really excited for both changes!

So then, overall, it’s a bit of a mixed bag in my opinion. Yes, there are a lot of positive changes but there are a few big negatives that can’t be ignored. I will wait until I play the game on September 12th to have my own opinion, but things are looking positive and if they do add the mini map back, I’m confident that it will be a good year for Call of Duty.
