New PlayStation 5 Controller and Console Rumours
| 2019-11-19

With next gen consoles coming at the end of next year, we are getting ever closer to beginning to hear the actual specs, designs and features of these new systems. Whilst all we have regarding to the PS5 is the name, release window and a few small pieces of information, hype is already high and the rumours we are going to be discussing today have only increased the buzz. So, first up, we have a patent filed by Sony for their next gen controller which we’re assuming will be named the Dualshock 5. This patent was officially filed by Sony so this could very well be legitimate and having looked at it, I’m kind of hoping that it is real. I really like the Dualshock 4 controller and this new patent seems to show a controller which takes a very similar form to its predecessor! The new controller looks to have a bit more of a bulky form factor, looking like a cross between the DS4 and the Xbox One controller. A curvier, more rugged looking design seems to suggest that it will be a tad more ergonomic than its predecessors. In terms of other differences, youll notice that the touch pad looks a bit bigger and seems to be squared off at the top as opposed to rolling over the top whilst also removing the much debated light bar which I actually really like. I’ll be genuinely sad if this feature is gone as I feel like it makes the controllers look much cooler than the Xbox ones. Having said this, the patent doesn’t show any detail on the back of the controller so it may well be there in a later revision or the final release. The only other difference seems to be that the thumb sticks look a little smaller too. Check out the patent images below:

In other PS5 news, a Twitter account has popped up which claims to have information on the release of the PS5. The following information should be taken as nothing more than a rumour as there are no sources whatsoever so it could be, (and probably is) all lies. This Twitter account claims that the new console will be launching on November 20th 2020 with a 2TB SSD for £449/$499. Having literally no sources means that this, as previously mentioned, should be taken with literally the smallest pinch of salt in human history but to be fair, it kind of makes sense. Anything much higher than that price and they risk pricing out a huge portion of the market and anything lower wouldn’t really make sense due to the components needed for the performance they have been toting. That price for a new console with a 2TB SSD included isn’t really realistic to start with but we know that Sony aren’t afraid of taking a loss on their new systems. I guess the question is, how much of a loss will they be taking? Let me know your thoughts on all of these rumours down in the comments below, are you hyped for next gen because I certainly am!
