The Outer Worlds Initial Thoughts
| 2019-10-29

A few days later than it should have been posted, our The Outer Worlds Initial Thoughts are finally here! The game comes at a time where there hasn’t really been a similar release in quite some time and looks to shake up the RPG genre by bringing some awesome locations, characters and gameplay to the fray. I've been quietly excited for this game for a while now and I’m thrilled to finally have a copy in my hands! I spent the weekend playing the game on Xbox One X and I even got to try a tiny bit on PC so after a few hours playing, what are my thoughts on the game? Let’s find out! Continue scrolling for my thoughts and check out our Live First Play video just below:

So then, after unreaping the really nice game box and sticking the disc in my Xbox, I was greeted with a fairly lengthy install and update. Its not the worst I have experienced and it may have just been my internet at the time but it did take a fair while. Anyway, upon booting the game you are greeted with the main menu which looks and functions as expected, its not until you get into the character creation that you start to see where this game is going. Character creation is decent with plenty of options and some awesome hair colours. Upon completing your characters appearance, you then get to choose their skills and job role which is both pretty cool and very familiar. It was at this point that I started to get very excited as it feels very, very similar to Fallout and I adored Fallout 4. Upon getting into the initial story, you get an idea of the theme/setting and discover what the overall target is. The first few characters you encounter have interesting personalities and instantly emphasise the prominence of comedy within the game. This combined with the solid visuals and responsive and fun gameplay add up to the first few minutes feeling very impressive indeed! Fortunately, that vibe continues as you play more of the game and I’m yet to see anything which has made me cringe or turn my nose up, so its all pretty promising so far! I'm going to continue playing before formulating my review so make sure to keep an eye out for that later this week! Let me know your thoughts on the game down in the comments below and if you want to grab a copy, check out the link at the foot of this article!
