Why Early Access?
“We have already been through a successful Early Access period with our previous game Rise of Industry and wanted to replicate a similar experience with Recipe for Disaster. Without sounding too cliché, Recipe for Disaster is at its heart, a game about people and adaptation, and Early Access embodies that concept by allowing us to work closely with our community and mould the game into the best that it can be. On top of that, the restaurant world is pretty nebulous which affords us the opportunity to get our playerbase involved in content ideas in a whole number of fun and creative ways!”
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“We plan to release the full version of the game in 2022 and of course we will be pushing regularly scheduled updates during the Early Access period. We also hope to accommodate as much player feedback as possible, so the exact release date may vary depending on what additional features are requested from our community.”
How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
“The full version of the game will not only include additional gameplay modes but also a host of new mechanics, features and visual polish. The final release of Recipe for Disaster will include:
Expanded singleplayer campaign - An expanded narrative driven multi-stage campaign that unfolds across a variety of highly thematic locales.
Scenario editor and multiplayer modes - Configurable options and tools to create your own custom scenarios. Up to 4 player competitive head-to-head.
Employee relationships and interactables - Employees develop affection and distaste for one another over time. Buy objects for your staff to keep them happy and productive.
Special VIP customers and health inspections - Timed events involving special customers who will judge you on your food quality and restaurant cleanliness.
Additional dynamic events and disasters - More unpredictable staff and customer events, and more devious disasters to discover and overcome!
Restaurant theming and customer types - Gain themes based on the types of dishes on your menu. Attract new customer types to your restaurant with specific demands.
Character model redesign - A redesign of all character models and clothing to bring the game’s visuals to the next level.
Modding support - Players will be able to design their own events, customer types, objects and stages.
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“The Early Access version of Recipe for Disaster has a selection of gameplay modes that make use of a strong core gameplay loop. The game also contains a range of tools and features that afford players a good amount of creative freedom when building and running their restaurants. The current feature list includes:
A mini campaign that takes place over a number of stages each with their own set of objectives to overcome.
Building tools and a wide variety of placeable appliances and decorative objects that allow for full customisation of your restaurants
An intuitive recipe editor that utilises 7 appliance actions and 80 different ingredients.
A procedurally generated staff and customer pool which generates characters using a combination of over 60 unique character traits including stingy, loud, apathetic, and elitist.
Flexible automated task priority system where you can assign your staff to different appliances and objects.
Staff welfare system that requires you to manage your employee’s stamina and stress levels.
Staff skill progression system where your staff gain experience when performing actions and unlock permanent bonus perks.
Uniform and grouping tool to visually define the roles of staff members e.g. front of house and chefs.
Employee breaking points and consequences such as walkouts, gossiping with customers, and breaking objects.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
“Yes, as a show of appreciation to the players who support us during the Early Access period we will be offering the game at a reduced price. The full version will be priced a bit higher to reflect the additional content included and the increased complexity of the game.”
How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
“Prior to Early Access release we have a number of public testing phases planned including periods where demos will be freely available. Our development team is active on the game’s Discord, sharing updates, answering questions and providing direction for new members. As Early Access progresses there will be plenty of opportunity to submit feedback and feature requests. We are even planning on getting players to vote on certain types of incoming game content, such as new objects, ingredients, and mechanics!”

Blazing a trail through the highly competitive, fast-paced and stress-inducing world of the food-service industry will be anything but straightforward. After all, this is an industry built around people, and keeping everyone happy, motivated, and fulfilled will require nothing short of a miracle!

Assemble your dream team – Pick from a pool of procedurally generated hopefuls. Consider each individual’s unique combination of traits and skill levels, and how these might affect their work efficiencies, relationships, and customer interactions. Will they fit in? Or will they prove to be more trouble than they’re worth?
Restaurant building - Customize the design and layout of your restaurants using intuitive building tools and a range of colourful themes. Equip your kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances, decorate your dining area, and build storage to hold those precious ingredients.
Get your priorities straight - Manually assign tasks to your team or keep everyone busy using a highly customisable priority system. Keep a close eye on incoming customer orders and adjust your strategy in real-time to ensure the highest standard of food and customer service.
Work ethics – Manage your team’s attitude and stamina levels to minimise the risk of sickness and mid-service walkouts. Some staff will love the tasks that you give them whilst others will loathe them! Be alert to staff thoughts, temporary and permanent trait changes, and evolving relationships within your team.
The customer is always right – Pay close attention to the demands of your customers and adjust your menu to match their tastes. Be wary of dietary requirements, food allergies and unusual preferences.
Everyone’s a critic – Decide how best to deal with the requests and complaints of your staff and customers. Will you be sympathetic or combative? Pushovers and tyrants will soon find themselves out of business so you’ll have to read each situation carefully.
A matter of taste – Work with reliable, and dubious, supplier contacts to secure a diverse array of ingredients. Use the intuitive recipe editor to freely create original recipes and add them to your menus.
