GRID Initial Thoughts
| 2019-10-15

Codemasters are legends within the racing genre and they’ve been making cracking games for years now. One of those games was GRID, a racer which sort of took the genre by storm and quality became one of the biggest racers available. This was back in 2008 though and the game has since changed so when they announced the remake/new GRID title, a lot of fans were excited yet cautious at the same time. So now its finally here, what do I think of this classic yet new racer? Let’s find out! Keep scrolling for my thoughts or check out our Live First Play video below:

First of all then, the installation process was very smooth and if I’m perfectly honest, I’m not even sure if there was a day one patch! The game boots up and feels just how you would expect, making you change a few settings before getting straight into the games intro. This intro was really good (as you can see in our first play video above) as it gives the player a chance to experience several different race styles before they even start the game. The cinematic transitions between and the intro video sequence are really cool too (if a bit laggy at times) and gave me the impression that this was going to be a very action-packed racer. The gameplay I experienced was also impressive with all three race types feeling very, very different from each other. The first saw me race through the streets in a GT spec Corvette, this showed off some of the rather impressive visuals and allowed me to experience how planted these styles of vehicles are. After a decent transition, I found myself in the second race discipline of oval racing in a NASCAR style car. This was actually quite challenging and feels like it could take a while to master. I should also mention that I loved the Cars (the movie) style intro cinematic! Finally, I found myself racing s Golf GTi race spec around Brands Hatch in the pouring rain. This felt completely different to the previous two races and I’m really excited to experience more wet races! Overall then, GRID looks very positive so far. I’ll continue playing and report back to you in the form of a written review at some point next week so make sure to keep an eye out for that. Let me know your thoughts on the game down in the comments below if you have played it already and if you haven’t, check out the link at the foot of this article to get your copy!
